Indian ambassador, His Excellency Vinay Kumar, made a special visit to SSBU (name of the university) on August 26, 2023. The visit was warmly received by the university's esteemed rector and founder, Oxford Saydaw Prof. K. Dhammasami, along with other administrative staff and faculty members.
During the meeting, the rector expressed his desire to expand the study of Indic languages like Pali and Sanskrit at SSBU. He also mentioned introducing other languages such as Prakrit and Hindi. Furthermore, the rector expressed his intention to establish new academic programs focused on archaeology, history, and Indian religions.
In response to the rector's proposals, the ambassador kindly offered to provide books and materials related to these subjects. This gesture would greatly contribute to enhancing the university's academic resources and promoting cultural exchange between India and SSBU.
Following their fruitful discussion, the rector and the ambassador exchanged gifts as a symbol of goodwill. The rector presented a beautiful Buddha statue made of precious gems from Myanmar. In return, the ambassador reciprocated by offering a robe and a framed Bodhi tree, both of which held great significance in Buddhism, from Buddhagaya.
To further assess the university's needs and explore opportunities for academic growth, the rector and ambassador took a tour of the SSBU Library. This visit aimed to identify areas where the library could be upgraded to better support the students and faculty in their pursuit of knowledge.
The ambassador's visit to SSBU not only strengthened the bond between India and the university but also opened doors for exciting new academic opportunities.
